HR Excellence in Research

HR Excellence in Research is part of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R), which aims to increase the attractiveness of working conditions, and thus the number of research workers in the European Union.
The Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences was awarded the HR Excellence in Research Logo by the European Commission in 2016, after meeting a number of formal requirements and submitting relevant documents.
The essence of the European HR Strategy for Researchers policy was originally the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Since January 2024, the Charter and Code have been replaced by an updated document entitled European Charter for Researchers, the content of which has been adapted to the provisions of current challenges, the changing scientific environment and scientific careers.
The European Charter for Researchers is a set of principles underpinning the development of attractive research careers to support excellence in research and innovation across Europe. The European Charter for Researchers focuses on the rights and obligations of researchers, employers, funders and policy makers.
It consists of 20 key principles. They are classified under the following 4 pillars:
1) Ethics, Integrity, Gender and Open Science;
2) Researchers’ Assessment, Recruitment and Progression;
3) Working Conditions and Practices;
4) Research Careers and Talent Development.
The implementation of the principles of the Charter by institutions is done on a voluntary basis, i.e. institutions that want to introduce the principles of this document may join this process at any time and apply for the logo of the European Commission HR Excellence in Research.
