LIQUIDICE project, funded under the Horizon Europe program, officially commenced with a successful kick-off meeting held on February 26-27, 2025, at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IG PAS), the project’s coordinating institution. The event gathered 36 participants, including representatives of the project partners and the Project Officer from the European Commission.

The meeting aimed to outline the project's key objectives, facilitate partner integration, and plan upcoming activities. Assoc. Prof. Rafał Junosza-Szaniawski, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at IG PAS, welcomed the attendees and officially launched the event.

Representatives from the European Commission, Karsten Godderz and Margarita Ruiz Ramos, provided an overview of project implementation guidelines, emphasizing transparency and reporting obligations. Martin Wearing from the European Space Agency (ESA) highlighted the role of satellite data in climate change monitoring in polar regions and invited the consortium to collaborate on utilizing ESA resources.

During the meeting, each project partner introduced their expertise in polar research and discussed their respective roles and responsibilities within the work packages (WP). Effective communication and collaboration were emphasized as crucial factors for project success.

Dr. Bartłomiej Luks and Andrea Spolaor presented the project's primary objectives, timeline, and expected outcomes. Key milestones and potential risks were analyzed, leading to initial risk management strategies. Work package leaders (WP1–WP5) detailed their planned activities, schedules, and the challenges associated with implementation and data integration. Group discussions further refined the cooperation strategy and task distribution.

On the second day, legal and financial aspects of project execution were addressed by Agnieszka Kowalik, who outlined the European Commission’s reporting requirements and cost eligibility rules. Dr. Bartłomiej Luks then presented the project management structure.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to engage with other projects selected under the HORIZON-CL5-2024-D1-01-02 call, including ICELINK and CryoSCOPE, fostering knowledge exchange and exploring potential collaboration opportunities.

Additionally, Dr. Agata Goździk introduced the project’s dissemination strategy and visual identity framework, while Ilkka Matero presented the data management plan.
