The First Polish Antarctic Expedition members, who took over the station from the USSR in 1959, were as follows: Wojciech Krzeminski (expedition leader, geophysicist), Stefan Różycki (geologist, representative of the presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences), Zbigniew Ząbek (surveyor), Janusz Śledziński (surveyor), Czesław Nowicki (journalist), Maciej Zalewski (geophysicist) and Czesław Centkiewicz (documentary filmmaker).

During Antarctic summer season 2021/2022, the participants of the Polish Antarctic Research Expedition (PARE): Prof. Marek Lewandowski (expedition leader), Prof. Monika A. Kusiak, Dr. Adam Nawrot and Prof. Wojciech Miloch, reached Dobrowolski Station. The expedition, which aimed to revitalise and recognise the research potential of the facility that had not been used for many years, was organised by IG PAS.

Oazis Station, the current Dobrowolski Station, was built in 1956 for the International Geophysical Year, which lasted from July 1, 1957 to December 31, 1958. For the same purpose the Polish Polar Station Hornsund on Spitsbergen was also established.
